    – Greater Montréal offers a wide range of talent for businesses.
    – The region is Canada’s "high-tech capital."
    – Is a profitable market.
    – Offers most competitive corporate tax rates, with a range of targeted and highly competitive incentives.
    – Offering great living and working conditions.

University of Calgary opening game library

Music libraries are currently the next big thing for universities. Efforts are afoot in Canada, as the University of Calgary will be expanding its library with a gaming collection in March 2011. The University of Calgary aims to have a collection that will « rival that of any other academic institution, » according to a report. University librarian Jerremie Clyde told the paper that adding games to the library collection could go a long way toward legitimizing the medium in the eyes of the academic community.

U.S. auto parts company expands into Ontario

Michigan-based Inteva Products has opened its first Canadian operation in Whitby, Ont. The facility will initially produce cockpit and headliner assemblies for the Chevrolet Camaro and Buick Regal, which are built nearby at General Motors’ assembly plant in Oshawa. The site will employ 108 workers when it reaches full capacity early next year. Formal production begins on September 27, 2010.

Essar Steel to invest $1 billion in Canada ops

Essar Steel is making an additional investment of $1 billion to run its Algoma steel plant in Canada at full capacity, at 4 million tonne per annum. This added production, according to chief executive officer Malay Mukherjee, "would be done with an eye on the demand situation in the US and Canada."

New Alberta wind farm proposed

The Alberta Utilities Commission said that a NaturEner SA subsidiary filed an application for a 108-turbine wind farm 30 kilometres southeast of Medicine Hat. Each 80-metre tower will house a turbine capable of generating 1.5 megawatts of power at the Wild Rose 2 Wind Power Plant.

Green energy government program to create 50 000 jobs in next five years

The Canadian government has announced that its goal is to create 50,000 new jobs in the green energy sector, with 20,000 of these set to appear over the next five years. The country already welcomes skilled workers from overseas through its points-based Canada immigration system, which enables young, skilled and educated people to gain Canadian work visas with ease.

Siemens Milltronics to expand in Peterborough

Siemens Milltronics, owned by Siemens, announced that it was expanding in Peterborough, creating 10 new jobs over the next three years. The expansion will include the manufacture of printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) from the U.S. to Ontario. The business will also invest in new equipment to produce lead-free electronic boards sold worldwide for manufacturing high tech measuring devices.

2011 will be record year for wind development: CanWEA

Canada is projected to end this year with 754 MW of new wind energy capacity (or $1.7 billion in new investment), the Canadian Wind Energy Association (CanWEA) said. This will bring Canada’s total installed wind energy capacity to 4,073 MW. "Building on the growth in 2010, we can also state with a high degree of certainty that 2011 will be a record year for wind in Canada with more than 1,000 MW likely to be installed," says Robert Hornung, president of CanWEA.

U.S. bioproducts company joins Saskatoon Research Hub

The National Research Council of Canada (NRC) and U.S. bioproducts company Metabolix announced that Metabolix is setting up operations at NRC’s Industrial Partnership Facility in Saskatoon. Saskatoon is the geographic centre for numerous oilseed activities, offering extensive research facilities and supporting infrastructure. Richard Eno, President and CEO of Metabolix said that his company looks forward to the growth of the operations at NRC-PBI and, more broadly, across Canada.

Canada’s banks rated most stable in the world

Canada’s banking system has been ranked the worlds soundest for the third straight year by the World Economic Forum. The think-tank also puts Canada in the top 10 countries for availability of financial services, corporate ethics, and overall quality of the educational system.
