Economist says Fed policy is ‘competitive devaluation’

Reuters reports on the Canadian Consulate’s recent Invest in Canada luncheon. Nobel prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz explained that U.S. monetary policy is flooding the world with cheap liquidity and Canada’s current policy is acting as a competitive devaluation against emerging-market currencies. Appearing alongside Stiglitz was BMO chief economist Sherry Cooper, who was encouraged by recent indications that the deleveraging process for households and businesses is beginning to slow, but noted that that would not be enough to restore job growth.

L.A.’s Boingo Wireless, Canada’s newest WiFi provider

Los Angeles-based Boingo Wireless, the provider of Wi-Fi roaming and hotspot services, has inked a deal to expand its network in Canada. The firm said it has inked a deal with MTS, a Canadian national communications provider, to add over 150 MTS hotspot locations to its network. The hotspots cover Winnipeg, Brandon, and other communities in Manitoba. Boingo said it now has a network of nearly 1,200 Wi-Fi hotspots in Canada.
