Canada could enjoy a "breakaway decade" of economic growth if businesses invest more to improve productivity, Gordon Nixon, the head of the RBC said. Nixon added that Canada has the potential to significantly outperform the developed world in terms of economic growth and social leadership. "Canada’s economy has been resilient, the housing market is up, past federal surpluses have provided flexibility, the banking system is stable and corporate tax rates are low," he said.

Canada offers great package to game makers, says UK government official

According to UK’s culture secretary Jeremy Hunt, no country offers video game makers more incentives than Canada. Hunt also knows a change needs to be made in the UK games industry. "We need to offer the video game industry a package as financially competitive as Canada," Hunt told The Guardian. Canada houses some of the world’s biggest and best developers: BioWare, Ubisoft, Relic, EA Canada, EA Black Box, Silicon Knights and Digital Extremes to name a few. Canada’s "great package" helped the industry grow by 33% between 2008 and 2010.

U.S.-based AdzZoo announces expansion into Canadian market

AdzZoo, LLC, a search engine marketing provider for small to mid-size businesses, announced that it will be expanding to Canada. Canadian businesses in British Columbia and Ontario will be able to use AdzZoo’s approach to small business marketing. There are plans to expand to additional provinces in the near future. AdzZoo is a Google Certified Partner.

Bathium expands in Boucherville, Quebec

BatHium Canada, which specializes in the development and marketing of lithium-metal-polymer batteries, announced an expansion project for its Boucherville, Quebec site. The company has invested $176 million and will create 245 new jobs over the next five years in addition to the current 67 jobs. BatHium Canada is a subsidiary of France’s Bolloré Group. The company said the lithium-metal-polymer battery expansion is to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles.

Indian companies seek M&A deals in Canada

Indian companies are negotiating several M&A deals in Canada to secure technology, natural resources and access to the North American market as they globalize operations. "The number of deals, including the ones being negotiated, could be in hundreds, ranging from consumer products to technology companies," Rahim Allani, managing director at Orbixa Capital International, told ET.

inthinc adds a second Canadian facility to meet growing demand

Utah-based inthinc Technology Solutions Inc., a telematics company centered on fleet management and driving safety, announced an investment in Calgary, Alberta. This facility in Calgary is the second Canada-based inthinc facility announced in less than one year. "Our Canadian customer base has grown by nearly 50% over the past two years," said Todd Follmer, CEO, inthinc Technology Solutions.

Scala to manage Canada’s Newad advertising network

HTSC and NFC will offer aerospace organizations in Canada and abroad, "safety, reduce cost and increase performance," with NFC’s night vision goggles.

EDF EN Canada signs agreements for 49.2MW of wind energy in

EDF EN Canada Inc., a unit of French company EDF Energies Nouvelles, has signed two 20-year power purchase agreements with Hydro-Québec for wind energy projects totalling 49.2MW. EDF EN Canada Inc. has joined with MRC du Granit and MRC de la Mitis for the development of two 24.6 MW wind projects, respectively. EDF EN Canada Inc. now has over 1GW of wind energy in development in Quebec, including five wind projects totaling 954MW which were won in the 2007 Hydro-Québec RFP.

Mumbai’s Tata to invest $5B in Quebec

Tata Steel’s managing director H.M. Nerurkar said the company is ready to invest almost $5 billion in Quebec-Labrador "to get away once and for all from violent market swings in iron ore prices." Tata Steel plans to develop and finance the $4.85-billion taconite project straddling the Quebec-Labrador border north of Schefferville with partner New Millennium Capital Corp.
