Ontario’s economy continues to attract solar manufacturing and related companies. It has recently attracted up to 200 new jobs in Toronto as part of a partnership with Samsung that has created 1,800 jobs. Samsung C&T Corp. and SMA Solar Technology AG have partnered to build industrial-size solar inverters, electric devices. "Ontario is a world leader in attracting clean energy investments as we transform and modernize our electricity system. We are making crucial investments to build a strong, reliable system that will clean up the air we breathe for our families, businesses and the generations to come. We are doing it while helping keep costs down for families," said Brad Duguid, minister of energy

Dubai and Canada boost trade & exports opportunities

Dubai Exports and the Canadian Business Council of Dubai and Northern Emirates have jointly hosted a networking breakfast for companies to develop business relationships and conduct trade between the two countries. Through this networking breakfast, both Dubai Exports and the Canadian Business Council provided the opportunity for Canadian buyers to meet with the UAE-based companies. Local companies that attended the networking represented sectors as: food, chemicals, constructions, and services.

Ontario’s Tech Data and California’s Ruckus Wireless form distribution agreement in Canada

Mississauga, ON-headquartered Tech Data Canada, a distributor of IT products, logistics management and other value added services, has partnered with Ruckus Wireless (based in Sunnyvale, CA) to offer Ruckus "Smart Wi-Fi" systems and technology to its 5,000 reseller and solution provider customers across Canada. Through the agreement, Tech Data will distribute the entire line of Ruckus ZoneFlex Smart Wireless LAN products throughout the country.

Dell expands in Canada with acquisition

Dell Inc. plans to acquire information technology firms in Canada and Europe. The Texas-based company is expected to buy Dell Financial Services Canada Ltd. and CIT Vendor Finance’s Dell-related assets and sales and services business in Europe. Financial terms of the deals were not disclosed. The Canadian acquisition is scheduled to close by midyear. The two acquisitions are the latest in a series of foreign deals that the company has completed this year to expand beyond the personal computer business.

Report: Canada to play an effective role in the global pharma market

According to the report "Global Pharmaceutical Market Forecast to 2012," the global pharmaceutical market has been showing an impressive growth, despite the global economic slowdown. The report has found that the pharmaceutical market in Canada has been experiencing a good growth pattern for the past few years, with the country being the second-largest pharmaceutical market in North America and one of the most regulated pharmaceutical markets in the world. The country recorded pharmaceutical sales worth $22.57 billion in 2009.

Russian firm OMI opens in Canada

Moscow-based Online Market Intelligence (OMI), which provides online fieldwork, has opened an office in Canada, with expansion in mind. OMI provides online data collection, as well as survey translation and programming, sample-only studies and top-ups. The firm’s new Vancouver office will be led by Boris Lyukmanov.

Alcoa will invest $100M in Québec in 2011

The four Québec plants of U.S.-based Alcoa will benefit from total investments of roughly $100 million during the year 2011. These investments will serve to maintain and optimize the plant’s performance. Pierre Morin, President, Alcoa Global Primary Products (Canada) mentions that "the capital projects program will ensure that the expertise of our 3,200 employees continues to shine so that we can offer the best possible products and profit from the current outlook for aluminum."

Germany’s REpower will supply turbines for Canadian wind farms

Germany-based REpower Systems has signed a contract with Wind Works Power for the delivery, installation and maintenance of turbines for two wind farms with a total capacity of 30MW in Ontario. The facilities are expected to generate enough electricity to power approximately 60,000 homes annually. Both wind farms have been awarded a feed-in tariff power purchase contract by the Ontario Power Authority.

Italian company keeps up to 200 new jobs in Mississauga

Ontario announced that it will invest in a new solar manufacturing plant that will help create 71 new jobs in Mississauga. The plant will employ up to 200 people at full capacity and distribute solar panels across North America. The Italy-based company, Silfab, is now producing high-efficiency solar panels. The Italy-based company was attracted to Ontario by the province’s vibrant clean energy economy and made Ontario their first and only plant in North America.
